Visiting The Past
History began to mark time at the Jonquil Garden Club at their meeting at the home of Mrs.
Robert Baugh in Springhill, when they began the first quarter with a social. Those assisting in
entertaining were Mrs. W. E. Patterson, Mrs. C. L. Groce, Mrs. Chester Austin, and Mrs.
Homer Bell. Mrs. George Montgomery of Marietta was the guest speaker. Her subject was
"The value of a Garden Club to a Community." Mrs. H. W. Medlin, president of the club
directed the business meeting.
The Men's Civic Club of Smyrna will hear an address by the Rev. Charles Wood of Marietta at
a meeting to be held Monday night, October 11. Dinner will be served, followed by musical
program by Harold Goodwin, Miss Elizabeth Goodman, and Marvin Williams.
The W.M.U. of the Smyrna Baptist Church (First Baptist) observed State Missions Day. Mrs.
Joe Camp, program chairman for the organization arranged the program. Mrs. E. B. Awtry
gave the devotional...others taking part were Mesdames Eugene Brinkley, S. E. Faucett, M. H.
Gwin, J. L. Rutledge and E. C. Bramblett.
Roe Hughes was hostess to the Mary Perry G.A.'s at their September meetlng....The
organization voted to send toilet soap as their white cross gifts to the Georgia Baptist Hospital.
