The Smyrna Histrorical and Genealogical Society offers numerous volunteer opportunities where you can make a meaningful difference and serve the community including:

• Smyrna Museum Staffing - Shifts are three hours in length and are available from 10 AM to 1 PM and 1 PM to 4 PM on Tuesday through Saturday.
• Document Duplication Typing - We have a number of old documents that were typed years ago before the advent of word processing. We need them retyped as editable text in an e-mail, Microsoft Works or Microsoft Word so they can be maintained in the future. This work can be done at home and we can e-mail you scans of the pages and you can e-mail your work back to us on your own schedule.
• Document & Photo Scanning - We want to post digital copies of photos and documents in our collection on this website. We need help scanning 1000s of items. This work is done on site at the museum in one hours shifts.
• PDF File Conversion - We need Microsoft Word documents converted to PDF files so we can post them to our website. This work can be done at home and we can e-mail you Microsoft Word files to be converted and you can e-mail your work back to us on your own schedule. You will need a copy of the full version of Adobe Acrobat (not just the reader) on your computer or you can convert them on the Adobe website. Each file takes about 5 minutes to process.
• eJonquil Coordinators - Do you like to hunt through boxes for unique old photos and documents? Do you like to logically organize memorabilia by subjects? If yes, we need your help. We will soon be starting our the e-Jonquil Project. The goal of this project is to put thousands of our old photos and interesting documents (records, newspaper articles, advertisements, etc.) from Smyrna's past on the Internet so people around the world can easily learn about The Jonquil City. This work will be done at the Smyrna Museum.
• Historical Summary Article Writers - If you are a history buff and enjoy writing, we need help writing summaries of various historical topics in Smyrna's past. Topics include Smyrna in the Civil War, WWI Veterans, Life in the 1950s and many, many more. We can assist you with locating accurate reference materials upon which the articles need to be based.
• Smyrna Memorial Cemetery Maintenance - We need help maintaining the cemetery - pulling weeds, clearing leaves, planting seasonal flowers, light landscaping duties, etc.
• Welcome Center Staffing - The welcome center is operated by the city. Like the museum next door, which is operated by the Smyrna Historical and Genealogical Society, it too is 100% staffed by volunteers. Click on the welcome center link at the top of the page to learn more.
